What are RSS Feeds?

RSS, or "Really Simple Syndication", is a particular way of distributing information. Rather than signing up for yet another email newsletter or checking a number of websites every day, you subscribe to a feed. This RSS feed does the work for you. As soon as there is fresh content, it will show up in your RSS reader or RSS aggregator. You're in complete control of when and how often you check for new information. You can stay on top of the latest content from any number of sources simply by subscribing to their RSS feeds.

How do I read an RSS Feed?

One of the easiest ways to get started reading RSS feeds is through the free My Yahoo! webpage. We have created a quick Flash demo that will help you better understand the process. Most people read RSS feeds in what is called an aggregator. This is a simple application that goes out and checks the feeds and downloads any new content. There are generally three kinds of aggregators:

• Web-based, such as:
  • Bloglines
  • My Yahoo!
  • My MSN
• Outlook/Email Plugin:
  • NewsGator
  • RSS Popper
• Standalone Aggregators
  • RSS Bandit
  • FeedDemon

Once you've chose an aggregator/reader, you simply click either the orange XML icon, or the icon to add the feed directly to your My Yahoo! or My MSN homepage.

That's it! You'll see our new content as soon as it is available, right on your My Yahoo! page or in your reader of choice.

Where can I get more RSS Feeds?

RSS feeds can be found almost anywhere on the internet. Here are some resources we find helpful for locating new and interesting feeds:

• Technorati and Feedster, two RSS search engines
• Yahoo! has a page for locating feeds by topic
• Syndic8 has a huge index of feeds on almost any topic
